Sincerely 'Fro Me to You - My Silly Son Edition

So today Bear had a job interview. Yes, you read that right. Ten year old Bear went on a job interview. His teacher has decided to charge her students "rent" for the things they use.

I tell you what, I'll let her tell you about it:

There will also be a Talking Tax. The majority of the class looked at Bear when that was announced. Hmmmm.....

Bear filled out his application, listed three references (who did not live in our house). Today, he dressed professionally (the top pic was NOT taken today) and had his interview. He had to have his shirt tucked in, shake her hand properly, & truly answer her questions. He feels fairly confident that he got the job. Right now, he's writing a thank you note to thank his teacher for taking the time to interview him.

I'll keep you posted!

I really like Bear's teacher! What a wonderful learning tool to teach her students some responsibility and help them learn about the unfairness of life.
That Talking Tax is a real doozie!
I like how she told parents to allow their kids to feel uncomfortable during this whole learning experience. This will serve them well. I think they will have a lot more fun doing this than they realize, even if they get a crappy job or get fired or get pummeled by taxes.

Good luck, Bear!

Ok, I forgot that she did this! I am SO stealing her idea :) Think she'll mind?

That is so great! Teaching the kids through active participation - letting them live the lesson, not just listen to it.

I would love to hear how it goes (and Bear's thoughts on the whole thing).

How cool is that?! All our teachers did was say "It's a jungle out there, you'll see". Never with an example. It's great to teach him something like that. Sounds like a wonderful teacher.

What a great idea! I'm sure this lesson will stick with many of her students for years to come.

Awesome idea! I gotta laugh when the class looked at Bear when the Talking Tax was announced! I remember when I was little, my teacher put masking tape over my mouth for talking!

I love that Bear's teacher does this! I wish my teachers had done stuff like this when I was in school!

And...? I have to believe that, with Bear's student council experience, he scored one of the biggest jobs.

I'm loving that teacher - perhaps I will forward these ideas on to my kids' teachers!!

I want to nominate her for teacher of the year. This is brilliant. What a clever way to teach them about responsibilities and economics. Love this woman.

What a great idea! I did something similar with my middel schoolers, but we had checkbooks, got bills, found jobs, houses and cars in the paper, the whole she-bang. It was always fun and the long-timers always had fun telling the new 6th grader what was in store for them.

This is absolutely fantastic - my hat is off to Bear's teacher - this is one of the best things I've heard of a teacher doing in a long time!
