Sincerely 'Fro Me to You - Apple Pie
I know this isn't a normal 'Fro Me to You post but it's tragic just the same. Long time readers know how Bubba's Sis & I love to eat out AND love our apple pie. We often pick restaurants just for the pie. We eat light & save room. Who needs vegetables? Apples are fruit.
We have had some bad experiences. Cheddar's dropped the LAST APPLE PIE on the floor. Cracker Barrel's tasted horrible to us. Bennigan's tasted pretty bad to us too. Applebee's discontinued apple pie on their menu. Chili's has a cold apple pie shot glass thingy that just isn't the same. Traumatic experiences.
We had gotten to where Cheddar's was the only decent apple pie around. Then we went to Zio's, an Italian restaurant. Oh.My.Golly. was it ever good. Flaky yummy crust, sizzling skillet, plenty of apples, what tasted like homemade ice cream, & this vanilla sauce that I used for the bread not the pie. Heaven in our mouths.
We had it exactly one time. One time. The above pic is NOT the apple pie that dreams are made of. Oh no, this apple pie will never be scrapped or bragged about. It's a pic of the apple pie we had the second time we ate at Zio's. Just one week later. One week. This apple pie was disgusting. It had the consistency of jello. Where were the apples? And the ice cream couldn't go on top (um, why?) so they put it on the side. The side of the sizzling skillet. It was so bad that we returned it & requested it be taken off our bill. Ya'll, that's serious. It has to be really bad for us to forfeit a dessert.
The manager came over to inform us that they changed their apple pie. She was just as upset as we were. She asked that we contact the home office so that a change could be made.
It's a travesty of dessert proportions. I can't even look at this picture without a lump forming in my throat. I want some more of the yummy apple pie.
I think we need a Cheddar's visit, Bubba's Sis.

Oh, I was getting all excited because I thought you had discovered the perfect pie....I'm still searching and that's why I've moved up a size. Unfortunately.
Awwww....that is TOO sad. I love an apple pie dessert thingy too! Most recent find was at Longhorn's steak house. Mmmmmm.
**Sniff!** I got all choked up again just reading about it. When I got home that night and relayed the story to the family, Daughter said, "Mom, I think you and Miss D have an apple pie curse." And then I cried again.
Yes, it's back to Cheddar's for us. We just better not get Mr. Butterfingers for our waiter!
That is so sad, I HATE when restaurants do that!
I don't eat fruit or nuts or crust in my dessert - pretty much just chocolate but I can still relate. I've often picked resturants based on their dessert options.
My Sincerely 'Fro post this week is The One Where I'm Naked...(!)
These so-called places don't know how to make apple pie! Stick to the locals. If you can afford it, the desserts at MerLion are to die for. Try the apple pie at Classic Cafe or even at Hoagie Ranch, Outriggers, or Tookies, if they still have it. Good luck with your quest to find the best!
You just have to learn how to make it yourself so that you can have it anytime you want!
I like very few pies, but you can't beat a good homemade apple pie with ice cream on top. Yum.
Love Zio's but really that's italian and well Apple pie is all American!
Keep the good search up and please let us know when it happens...until then check out
"Medina, TX" which is a one horse town know for their apple orchards and yes apple pies! I believe you can order one..or plan a trip during the "apple festival!"
Uggh...at first I thought that was egg at the bottom of that pie! Yuck!
I hate it when restaurants go and mess with something good like that!
My sister and I do the same thing with Key Lme Pie. :)
That is a travesty. I work for a restaurant and have worked in them before and I hate when they change stuff that is great. I am sorry for your loss.
Sounds as if you take eating food as just as seriously as I do. I am standing with you in spirit and hoping that you prevail in getting the GOOD pie back on that menu. What a disgrace!! How could they DO that to people?? This is America, gosh darn it!!!!!
:-)
They have apple pie at TOOKIE'S??? Oh ho ho, D.... a Bean Burger and Apple Pie?? I might think I died and went to Heaven!
YUM, Cheddar's... love the Oriental Chicken Salad with an extra croissant!! That "pie" looks horrible! Good luck, the only apple pie I eat is Mom's! If we ever get together for a crop, I'll ask her to make us one!
kris
There is nothing more disappointing than a crummy desert. Especially when you're paying for it!! Hope you get to Cheddar's too!
Ummm why would they change a recipe that's obviously working for something that is obviously worse?!?! I'm mad for you. DO NOT MESS WITH A WOMAN'S DESERT! LOL
That's LAME! I hate when restaurants do that!
I hope you get you pie back. :(
You're a hoot, D, goodness gracious you keep me entertained. I really hope you get a good pie soon, you both earned it after that one! How can I help with your efforts? Do you have a link we can all follow to echo your disdain? I'm all about it, let me know. xoxo
I saw on Tammy's blog you're an Auburn fan - even if it's through your husband ;) War Eagle!
You are so funny!
I hope you contacted the home office for the pie!
Gross! I would have cried, ya'll.
You have so got to send this link to the home office.
Your apple pie is my creme brulee. Must have that. I choose restaurants for their dessert all the time. Glad to know I'm not the only one out there who does so.
That's like when Taco Bell took the Chili Cheese burrito off the menu. I could have cried.
Okay, so maybe good apple pie is a few (hundred) steps up from a Chili Cheese burrito from Taco Bell... but it was my crutch and I loved it.
*sigh*
I posted something today calling for stories about your worst parenting mistakes. If you've already posted one in the past or feel like posting another one and linking up, I'd definitely appreciate it! :)
You two absolutely crack me up - your friendship is priceless.
ya know, when I looked at that picture, I thought, "Taht aint no apple pie!" It looks like there's an egg in it! May you find heavenly apple pie - and soon!
