Sweet Tea

Most Southerners, when asked what they want to drink, request Sweet Tea. Most Northerners have no idea what that is. ;) Even though I am a G.R.I.T.S. (girl raised in the south), Sweet Tea is not my drink of choice. I just was not raised on it.

However, growing up, there was something about my best friend's tea when we were really hot & thirsty. My paternal grandmother also makes some ga-ood tea. I asked for the recipes. Was told exactly how to make it. However, I am missing the sweet tea gene. I just can not make it as scumptalicious as they do. Bubba's Sis recommended an Ice Tea Maker. Still, no good.

So, to get my Sweet Tea fix, on the rare occasions I crave it, I head over to Chick-Fil-A. Ahhhh! Sa-weet! When I had my wisdom teeth pulled & couldn't drink carbonated drinks, my hubby would buy it for me by the gallon. It helped the carbonation cravings.

I now have another go-to place. McDonald's. Yes, you read that right, McDonald's has some delicious sweet tea. It's like 3 parts sweet to 1 part tea.

I feel a craving coming on...

I'm a G.R.I.T.S. also, but I don't drink sweet tea. My dad loved it!

Girl, how can you be a GRITS and not love sweet tea all. the. time? But yes, Chick-Fil-A has some yummy sweet tea, and Mickey D's isn't bad either! Not like *I* can make, but not bad. ;-)

I am a GRITS too and I cannot STAND SWEET TEA!!! Any tea at all for that matter. I also dont like Dr. Pepper or a Big homestyle southern breakfast. I know, I break all molds.

Brent LOVES McD's sweet tea! He can drink 2 of those HUGE glasses in one sitting. I tried to be like him the last time we went to McD's and ended up with a stomach ache. O well!

Yay!!! GRITS Non-Tea Drinkers UNITE!!! I feel so validated now, thank you. ;)

Krissy, I too hate Dr. Pepper. Most of my family loves it, but gross.

Melissa, I don't see how Brent can drink 2 at one sitting. They are massively sweet! I'd get a stomach ache too!

You're right about McDonald's sweet tea, it's pretty good. Yeah, I was surprised too. When we moved to Texas a couple of years ago I couldn't believe how every restaurant had sweet tea, even Taco Bell! To a sweet tea drinker like myself, I felt like I had come to Heaven. But Texans already knew that! Take care, Julie

Don't even get me started on McD's sweet tea. I'm pretty sure they lace it with crack so you keep coming back. In fact, just talking about it now makes me think we should go do some "errands" today and since we'll be out, run by there and get some tea. I'm not southern, but my peeps are hillbillies.

I'm a GRITS and LOVE sweet tea! Have you tried Red Diamond in the gallon jug? THey sell it at Wally World. and the new McALister's Deli in Webster on the freeway across from the Junkie sells theirs by the gallon and it's da bomb! It's much easier than making it! To make "real" sweet tea, you have to make simple sugar syrup first, regular sugar won't do!
GOod luck!
