Day Trip To The Big City

Saturday we decided to go to Dallas for the Grand Opening of the new American Girl store. Even though Lamb is probably too old for AG, she LOVES it still. The history & attention to detail grabs us every time. Dallas isn't *that* far away so we thought it'd be a fun, easy trip. Silly us! We don't always look at the big picture. It was fun but it wasn't all that easy.
Here are some highlights:

  • Once again, I could NOT convince hubby to stop off at the huge Sam Houston monument. One day, one day...

  • We passed a beautiful dead buck on the road.

  • The directions had the wrong exit # listed. We ended up driving the route that JFK took when he was assassinated. That was pretty creepy. I've been there bunches of times, but I don't think I ever was in a car driving over the 2 Xs. It was quite crowded too. I wondered why until I realized the anniversary is coming up in a few days.

  • When we finally arrived at the store, we were stunned to see the line waiting to get in. It snaked around the building! We truly thought we just wasted 4 hours of our life. Well, 8 hours round trip. I also forgot that Dallas is farther north than us. That means it was chillier than I expected. I hate being a lizard sometime.

  • Fortunately for me, we only stood outside for about 30 minutes or so.

  • Lamb found some pj's she wanted for her new Christmas Eve jammies, a Dallas AG shirt, and a gift for her BFF. Plus she got to do 3 crafts.

  • The Bistro was booked up, but when they found out we were from out of town, they squeezed us in.

  • The food was yummy. I had spinach & artichoke dip and turket cobb salad with sweet potato crisps. Hubby had some flatbreat with ravioli and side salad. Lamb had cheese fondue with ravioli and sweet potato crisps. Bear had flatbread and grilled salmon (cuz that's what Bear's eat, dontchaknow) with curly fries. My mom had chicken satsay (?) with grilled salmon and side salad. For dessert, both kids had floats. Lamb an orange cream and Bear a root beer.

  • There was still a line waiting to get in when we left around 4:30pm.

  • Because Bear behaved himself in the girly store, he got a Dallas Cowboys shirt. (Please ignore the wardrobe choice. I know it doesn't match pretty but we must chose our battles, especially early in the morning. And, no, I'm not talking about the cap.)

  • On the way home, I was used as a proper example in the teaching of a young girl in proper public restroom etiquette. And I was told I had really small hands by the check out man.

  • And 8 hours later, Big D realized he missed the perfect pun on the trip up there. Remember that deer we passed? He wished he said: We just passed the buck!

  • So see, Coastie Brother, we do special things for Lamb too!

You're so funny. I think it looks like a wonderfully fun day. You do Christmas jammies too? I usually sew them, I didn't last year. I think this year, I'll get back to that. xo
