Of All The Stinkin' Rotten Luck

I wish I could say that the baseball situation has improved. To be honest, it's gotten worse (click here for the background story). I thought today the tide had turned to Bear's favor. The coach actually had him at 2nd base. We were thrilled!

Then the tide turned again. Bear got hit with the ball his first at bat. It got him right on his right funny bone. He must have turned funny trying to get away from the ball.
RottenLuck Bear has NEVER cried on the field. But, he sure felt like it today. He couldn't concentrate on his base running. His arm was numb so he kept shaking it & focusing on the pain. When he got in the dugout, he just burst into tears.
Ouch So the coach sat him out the 2nd inning. Understandable. Bear was not ready to be back on the field. By the 3rd inning, Bear was ready. But he sat out. In the middle, coach pulled out a boy who was not paying attention and put in Bear. That was it. Those are the only times he played in the game. One and ½ innings. Out of 5 innings. I was told a piece of info today that had me seeing red. I'm sad to say that I'm firmly in Big D's camp of thinking it's a petty, get-back-at-Big D-sorta thing. My heart weeps.
I love this sport! Look at that face. How can you keep that kid from playing ball?

Makes me wanna pack my bags and head right out there to be a member of Bear's cheering squad! Poor kid... sometimes adults are more immature than kids.

D...that's a great pic of Bear swinging. Stinkin scum bag of a coach. You would think an adult could "adult-up" and stop being such a Nancy about it. Friggin' pansy!

I hope he gets to play soon. He loves baseball so much! That coach doesn't know what he's missing! Bear works too hard at everything he does to be treated like that.

Thanks everyone!! I know you can only go by what I say about Bear's abilities. I appreciate ya'll's support. Bear is NOT a superstar, but he is so much better than this. And, like Melissa said, he works hard.

Coastie Bro, there is nothing Big D can do. They are following the rules, just doing it at the bare minimum. Plus, we are stuck between a rock & a hard place since the wife is also a board member. Yes, he can say something to the coach, but we are afraid that will be the wrong thing to do. He can't hold Bear back on batting so we are going to use this year as batting practice.

Aww, poor Bear. I bet that really hurt.
I played mostly second base during jr. high and high school. I pitched and played short stop my senior year of high school I loved playing softball.

Keep on playing, Bear. Hopefully, you'll get more time on the field next time.

Coastie Bro, I taught Bear to switch hit but once he went into his batting slump we stopped. Well now he is hitting consistently so we have started back on the switch hitting. Bear said he wants to do an in your face by getting a hit right and left handed in a game. At the beginning of the season the coach said he was going to give a prize to whoever had the best batting average. Of course this was when Bear wasn't getting a hit. He would also update them on their averages before every game. Here lately Bear has been hitting more consistent than the other kids on the team. His average has been in the .300's. The past several games no word mentioned about batting averages. Makes me wonder if Bear is leading that right now so he decided to do away with it. Hhhhmmmm. Especially since Saturdays game was the first hit the coaches son has gotten all season. Anyway we're not sweating it too much this season because he already has a good coach watching him and wants to pull him up into the majors next year on her team.

D, this might be too simplistic, but he's young. Can he come out of this team and join another for the season and get drafted onto one with a more big boy coach? I honestly know the feeling, Cody went through that years ago...and he finally was deflated enough to give up. Quit. I hope Bear hangs in there..I will pray for you all...including the coach.

In the meantime, JenGi and I have this thing we do with hot coals. I'm sure I could persuade her to come with and do a little 'coach's house drive-by' if you'd like to go that route. I'm just sayin..... xoxoxoxoxo

Mist just gave me a great idea.....how long does the season run?

Stacey, thanks for the prayers. The coach really needs them, as does his wife. I'm sorry you had to go through this with Cody. It bites. It wouldn't hurt so bad if Bear had absolutely no talent. But he does and he has dreams.

There is no way to change teams right now. The season will be over in a month. We are going to focus on his batting (cuz the coach can't prevent him from doing that) and have Bear shine that way. We have high hopes for next season. He has a big boy coach wanting him on her team. And, even if that doesn't work out, he won't be on this man's team again.

Bring on those hot coals! ;) ♥

Season is over in a month? But Summer doesn't even start for another two! What does he do with his Summer? Because me and JenGi (and hopefully Mist) are bringing down a bucketload. For grilling, you know. Grilling stuff. That's all. Just brats, cheeseburgers, steaks, coach's house, hotdogs, that kind of stuff.

I love your positive attitude, D. You could teach me a thing or two. Weight Watchers tomorrow, first meeting. Ugh. Don't even know where that came from, guess I needed to vent it somewhere! xoxo

It's very hard on a mom when their sons play sports - and I have been there! You want them to play well so badly that you ache for them, but you also worry that they could get hurt. You want them to understand that what Coach says is how it's gonna be, and yet you want to kick the jackass when he shows favoritism or pettiness. And, of course, there's that whole issue of winning. Some parents say "Oh it doesn't matter who wins or loses as long as they have fun!" Well, how silly is that??? They need to know that they have to give 100% whether they are ahead or behind. Yes it does matter who wins or loses! They know the pros don't just "have fun" out there.

Bear is a great kid and a great little ball player. He'll be OK. Try to stay calm Mama. He knows you're there and that you care for him so much. And, he won't be in Little League forever! Pony League is better.

Man, do I hate a coach w/ an agenda or what?! And why do they let these guys be in charge of a team of KIDS?! You have a great attitude about the season, and I'm glad it's a month away from being done. Go, Bear!!!

I have always disliked those people ever since I first saw them, now I dislike them even more! My brother is more dedicated to the game than almost anyone I know and deserves to play more than the coach's lazy son.
