O Christmas Tree

You might notice there is something odd about our tree. Go ahead, take a closer look. That's right, we don't have any ornaments on our lovely, plastic tree.
This is the reason why there aren't any ornaments.

Our fun-loving Elvis loves to climb it!

He likes nothing better than to climb to the top and sit a spell.

Since we are having a difficult time keeping him out, we made the decision to just have a lighted tree. Our ornaments are too precious to risk unbalancing the tree. While they are just things, I would still be devastated to see them broken from a fallen tree and a kitten who lives for mischief.

My tree has no ornaments either! Ours are in a storage room that we let a friend use when he had a stroke. I will miss them dearly this year!

We've been going through some of the same things here with the baby! I'll post on it this week. Cute seeing the cat in the tree!

My cats used to do this. I am less patient than you and stalked my poor kitties with a water gun. Every time they put a paw on the tree I blasted them. They could lay under it, they could take a drink from the water reservoir, but if they so much as batted an ornament they got wet. Took less than a week and all these years later they will not climb the tree, although if you look close at the picture of my tree there is a cat laying under it.

LOL..I found a picture yesterday (didn't post yet) of the tree one year that only had ornaments on the very top..b/c my over active toddler wouldn't leave the tree alone. We had to bolt it to the wall and remove all the ornaments from his reach LOL..We also had the tree in the playpen till dh could get stuff to boltit LOL..

My cats just like to bat at the ornaments not climb the tree. Between to toddlers and 3 cats I'm thinking maybe I should put the tree in a display case like they have at museums.

Thanks for all the compliments! While I am tolerant of the tree climbing, I'll admit that we did buy a spray bottle (just last night, btw) to squirt him if he so much as gets a gleam in his eye. What might be cute for a kitten will not be so cute next year when he's grown. I would like to eventually have ornaments on my tree again! ;)

Luckily my kitty likes to just lay under our tree! He's hardly come out since we put it up 3 days ago!!

I'll post my pictures later today - you'll see, he's laying under the tree! LOL

Merry Christmas!

Curious kitty.
I think you tree is still lovely. Christmas lights make everything look prettier.
I've seen some run down houses that look so lovely with their Christmas lights on the house and trees and fence.
I keep a string of white lights wound around the baker's rack in our dining room. I just love lights and not just at Christmastime.

Our cats used to climb the tree when we had a real one, but now the tree is fake and the cats are old! They do like to lie down under the tree, so I have tried to keep the more breakable ornaments up higher. Great post!

I love that you've accommodated Elvis. (I just wonder if that cat repellent stuff would work. It's kind of like that deer repellent stuff. And that skunk repellent stuff.) Now, if they just made a kid-repellent stuff, my chocolate ornaments would last until Christmas.

We have problems with ONE of our kittens, she is determined to play under the tree. I've been using the squirt bottle and it helps, but she's not so bright:), enjoy your 'lighted tree':)

I think you have made a wise decision. If you put ornaments on there, he might go really Elvis on you and start shooting up the place.

I love this! I have many photos of Jack and GiGi in our tree the first year we had them...they're so precious. Of course we didn't know they would climb until AFTER all the stuff was on, so we didn't undress the tree. Thankfully the carpet softened any blows and nothing valuable was lost. FUN post. xo

I think your tree is beautiful, and that one, rather fluffy, ornament you have is the most adorable ornament I have ever seen!
