We had just gotten off the Ellis Island Ferry and walked through Battery Park when we came across this. It stopped us in our tracks. We didn't know it was there so we weren't expecting it. This is a sculpture from the World Trade Center plaza. What's left of it anyway. Now it's an icon of hope and the indestructible spirit of our country. The eternal flame was ignited on September 11, 2002. A very humbling experience.
I was really afraid that I wouldn't be able to participate in this week's Foto Pherrets as all my pictures are a little out of sorts, ahem.
