Broke

I was really afraid that I wouldn't be able to participate in this week's Foto Pherrets as all my pictures are a little out of sorts, ahem. However, I remembered that I still have my New York pictures on a website. I *really* don't want to use another NYC Vacation photo. We do what we can do though, and this is a pretty significant picture. My interpretation of Broke:

We had just gotten off the Ellis Island Ferry and walked through Battery Park when we came across this. It stopped us in our tracks. We didn't know it was there so we weren't expecting it. This is a sculpture from the World Trade Center plaza. What's left of it anyway. Now it's an icon of hope and the indestructible spirit of our country. The eternal flame was ignited on September 11, 2002. A very humbling experience.

It's a smashed up sphere, it used to be in perfect shape. However, it was 'broken', if you will, during 9/11. The eternal flame is in front of it. Enlarge the pic, maybe it'll be more in focus.

And, it is awesome to see.

Well if that isn't about the best choice you could have made with the theme anyway! Would like to see that someday--I don't think I've ever heard of it.

Thanks for the hugs, D, more than you know :) xoxo
